Nutritech Inoculants Approved for Organic Farms

Sil-All® inoculants for grass, lucerne, maize and whole crop silages have been approved by BioGro New Zealand for use in its accredited organic livestock systems.

The BioGro approval covers Sil-All® 4×4+ in its water soluble, granular and PDA form and Sil-All® Stability in its water soluble and PDA form.

Nutritech technical manager Alun Faulkner said: “approval of the inoculants is a great step forward for organic systems. They can now benefit from technology that is proven to help to make their businesses more efficient.”

Alun said: “forage quality is essential to efficient performance in New Zealand agricultural systems, particularly where increased feed costs can apply, this is even more the case in organic systems. Quality silage doesn’t just mean high energy and protein, dry matter intake is key and for that to be achieved, silages must be palatable, digestible and free from mould and end products of poor fermentation.”

Making quality silage is a losing process: the plant begins fermentation as soon as it is cut and from there the main priority is to conserve as many nutrients as possible. To do this, pH must drop as soon as possible to inhibit any negative/wild bacteria that will consume favourable nutrients such as sugars and proteins.

Nutritech International is a leader in nutrition and forage technologies. It is the New Zealand supplier of Lallemand Animal Nutrition’s high quality microbial inoculants.

Microbial inoculants are used all over the world and are widely proven to help reduce the dry matter and nutrient losses often experienced during the harvest and ensiling period.

Nutritech’s Sil-All® 4×4+ and Sil-All® Stability are proven microbial silage inoculants used with grass, lucerne, wholecrop and maize silages to help bring on a rapid pH drop in the early stages of ensiling, reducing dry matter and nutrient losses and improving back end stability.

BioGro says it is New Zealand’s largest certifier for organic agricultural products. It certifies and accredits more than 600 producers, farmers and manufacturers across New Zealand and the Pacific.
