Matt Hanrahan is National Sales Manager for Nutritech International. From the tip of Northland to the bottom of Southland, he coordinates and supports a team of 12 Area Managers seeking to make life better for farmers. For Matt, it’s the bigger picture that drives him to get results in his work.

“I’m a big believer that farming is fundamental to the wellbeing of New Zealand. It pays for things we cannot do without, like schools and roads. So the job of my team is to add value to what these farmers are doing, to make them more profitable and their animals healthier.”

From his 18 years with Fonterra, Matt knows the ag and dairy sectors well. He also knows what it takes to help people be at their best.

“Our Nutritech Area Managers want to offer solutions to farmers. My job is to support them in that, which often means I’m out in the field helping them with commercial activities.

“Our people are technically talented – they know exactly how to fit products to customer needs. My job is to help them understand that they’re in the business of making farmers successful, which is the whole point of Nutritech products.”

More than ever, New Zealand farmers need a helping hand. Financial and market pressures are constant, while environmental and compliance regulations have added layers of complexity to an already difficult job. For Matt, his role as National Sales Manager is an opportunity to lift some of that weight.

“I came to Nutritech because I wanted to be useful, part of a company that made a difference in the rural sector. I’ve learnt over the years that there are different levers you can pull to help other people succeed, and if I can lead my team to do that for our farming friends, I will.”

When he’s not helping farmers, Matt is often with his kids. Whether it’s coaching their sports teams or relaxing with them in the spa, being with family is his favourite thing. Even then, his people management skills are evident.

“The spa pool is such a great place to hang with the kids. They can’t bring their devices in with them, so they have nothing else to do but talk!”
