Bovatec® 20CC is an ionophore like Rumensin®. These compounds are classed as rumen modifiers which improve animal performance by enhancing the activities of the beneficial rumen microflora. Ketosis and bloat are common issues that occur in dairy cows as a result of inadequate energy during lactation and poor rumen function. This is often a result of poor digestibility of nutrients by the bugs in the rumen. Ketosis is one of the “gateway” metabolic diseases which can result in other diseases including mastitis due to its role in immune function.

Bovatec® 20CC can be used as an aid in:

  • Control of coccidiosis caused by Eimeria species in goats, cattle and calves.
  • Increased production of milk solids (milk fat and milk protein) in dairy cows.
  • Control of ketosis in dairy cattle with subsequent improvement in immune function which can aid in reducing the incidence of clinical mastitis in lactating dairy cows.
  • Reduction in bloat score in cattle on pasture.
  • Prevention of coccidiosis caused by Eimeria species in broiler chickens, turkeys and replacement layer and breeder pullets on deep litter or range.
Active Ingredients

The active ingredient in Bovatec® 20CC is lasalocid sodium 20%.

Directions for Use
  • Mix 5 mg Bovatec® (1 mg Lasalocid) per kg liveweight per day to a plateau of 225 mg Bovatec®/day (45 mg Lasalocid) for goats and 2,000 mg Bovatec®/day (400 mg Lasalocid) for cattle into crushed grain, milk replacer, liquid supplement or other suitable food vehicle that will ensure adequate intake.
  • Up to twice the above dose rate (i.e. 2 mg Lasalocid/kg/LW) is indicated where severe coccidia challenge is expected or a wide range of individual liveweights occur within a group. (Do not feed more than 400 mg Lasalocid/head/day to lactating dairy cattle).
  • Reduced daily gain may result at 5 times and mortality from 15 times maximum recommended dose. Ensure young animals are adapted to medicated feed for 2 to 3 weeks prior to weaning, as coccidia challenge is most likely in the 8 weeks after weaning. In any case, initiate treatment at least 2 days prior to expected coccidial challenge.

The benefits of coccidiosis prevention in calves with Bovatec® are fully realised when this product is included in the calf meal and Deccox is included in the CMR / whole milk.

  • Add to calf meal at a standard rate of 450g Bovatec® / tonne of calf feed.
  • Mix Bovatec® into the feed in order to deliver 300 mg of Lasalocid sodium (i.e. 1.5 g of Bovatec®) per cow per day.

  • Mix Bovatec® into the feed in order to deliver 400 mg of Lasalocid sodium (i.e. 2.0 g of Bovatec®) per cow per day.

DO NOT RELY ON BOVATEC® ALONE FOR COMPLETE BLOAT CONTROL. Close observation and regular monitoring of cattle must be maintained and other bloat treatments used when necessary. During high risk periods divide the dose into half and treat twice daily.

  • Thoroughly mix into the food at the rate of 375 – 625 grams premix per tonne (equivalent to 75 – 125 mg Lasalocid /kg feed).

Broilers and Turkeys: Not to be used as a single dose treatment. Feed continuously as the sole ration throughout life.
Replacement layer and broiler breeder pullets: Feed continuously as the sole ration until 1-2 weeks after placement in rearing cages or layer cages. Discontinue use 14 DAYS before egg lay commences.
