Now winter is here, it’s crucial to prepare for next harvest season. Best practice for contractors is to take this time now to inspect and service inoculant applicators. Making sure equipment is in top condition now can save you time, money and headaches during the busy harvest season. While we will refer to the applicators within the Nutritech range the same advice is true no matter what type of equipment is used.
Why Inspect now?
- Prevent delays at harvest time: Identifying and fixing issues during the off-season prevents costly downtime during harvest.
- Optimal performance: Regular maintenance ensures your applicators work effectively, providing even and accurate application.
- Cost savings: Early detection of problems can prevent excessive repairs or the need for new equipment.
What to check:
- Clean: Make sure to remove any residue or build-up from previous use that may clog the mechanisms or attract unwanted pests.
- Wear and tear: Inspect gears, chains, rotors and hoppers. Replace any worn-out parts.
- Calibration: Ensure your applicator is properly calibrated. Check flow rates and adjust settings to guarantee precise inoculant application.
- Storage: Store your applicator in a dry, protected environment to avoid damage from the elements.
A few of the most common parts to check on the Gandy are the rotor, bearings and chain drive. On the Dohrmann, make sure the containers are cleaned out and open the side hatch to check the silicon pipe in the peristaltic pump. Replace if the pipe is perished, hard, brittle or has holes.
By taking these proactive steps, you will ensure your inoculant applicators are ready to perform at their best when you need them most.
Replacement parts can be ordered through your local Nutritech Area Manager (ABOUT | Nutritech), who will be happy to provide further assistance. For further technical assistance you can contact our Forage Business Development Manager Matthew Crampton on 027 880 7433.
