Description
Includes iodine, selenium, vitamin A, D3, and E to improve mating success and immune function.
Why add these for mating?
Iodine: Lifting iodine levels pre-mating can help identify cows on heat. Required for synthesis of thyroid hormones which are involved in the production of the sex hormones responsible for visual signs of heat (LH) and regulating the rate of energy metabolism. Iodine is used in metabolism, growth, lactation, and reproduction. Deficiencies can cause problems pre-mating (non-cycler cows, low conception rates, and foetal abortion).
Selenium: Like iodine, selenium is also involved in thyroid hormone production. Selenium helps the immune system function (including reducing mastitis) and supports the reproductive tract (including reducing metritis incidence, retained membranes and ovarian cysts post calving). There is evidence supporting selenium improving follicle health (developing eggs), helping to reduce earl embryonic death in the first month of pregnancy.
Vitamin A: Vitamin A is needed for tissue and bone formation, growth, milk production and reproduction. Vitamin A also maintains healthy teat canal linings. Excessvitamin A is able to be stored in the liver for up to four months.
Vitamin D3: Used by dairy cows to absorb calcium and phosphorus in the small intestine. This is important as cows are normally at peak milk production at the time of mating, increasing the demand for calcium and phosphorous. Phosphorous deficiencies have also been linked to infertility.
Vitamin E: Maintains immune function and has antioxidant properties (protects biological systems and supports reproductive health).
